The Craft of Christmas Gifts

I’m all for home made Christmas gifts. I mean if you have the time and skills to make something for your loved ones than nothing can be better than to craft something by yourself. I have minimal crafting skill. I make really good holiday cards but that’s about it. I can’t exactly mass produce Christmas holiday gifts for everyone on my list. I guess some people have it and others don’t...

Christmas Surprises and Edible Christmas Gifts, I had the last laugh

Last year I spent Christmas at my sister’s house. She has three kids aged between three and ten. And those kids are fast not to mention oddly squishy. They can crawl under and into just about anything when they’re looking for the Christmas gifts. So last year when I arrived at my sister’s place I was already in stealth mode. For those of you not familiar with the Hit man Game, stealth mode is basically me sneaking around my sister’s house trying to hide something. That something would be Christmas gifts.

I moved into the house when the kids were out playing and my sister helped me hide my Christmas holiday gifts. This wasn’t easy because all the good places were already housing my sister’s Christmas gifts for her family. I actually had to hide some of my smaller Christmas gifts under a loose floor board in the attic. Then there were the Christmas gifts waiting to be wrapped. They included most of my Christmas gifts for my sister so she found out what I was getting her. All surprise was instantly killed and I realized that my hours of shopping for unique Christmas gifts for everyone would amount to nothing when it came to my sister’s gift.

I suspect she even took the one gift I had managed to wrap and shook it to get an idea of what’s inside. Brought me memories of kindergarten, my teacher used to tell us it was very rude to shake a gift before opening it. The house looked more like ‘Operation hide Christmas gifts’ than anything. What I didn’t like was the fact that none of my gifts for my sister would be a surprise. There was only one way around it; super stealth mode (not featured in hit man). I went online and searched for something that could be delivered to my sister’s doorstep as close to Christmas as possible. It had to be something that didn’t need wrapping. There were a lot of Christmas gift baskets out there but they would deliver at least a week before Christmas and the wicker baskets were too big to hide anywhere. I finally stumbled on to these edible Christmas gifts. They were available in a lot of sizes. They were pretty unique and beautiful to look at. I ordered the small size and asked a neighbor if she’d store it for just one night and she said she’d love to. Everything worked out! My sister loved the Christmas fruits and the unique way I had given them to her. And she loved the surprise of it.

Christmas Fruits: An early Christmas gift for my three year old

Last year I was baking some Christmas cookies and watching my three year old play. I was momentarily distracted when I had to answer the door. When I came back into the kitchen, my three year old had snuck over to the counter, climbed a chair, by passed the cookie jar and found one of his Christmas gifts.

When I cam back to the kitchen he was sitting on the floor peeling the wrapping off. I was absolutely shocked. I had hid it behind the cookie jar for the very reason that he’d be more interested in the cookies than what was behind the cookies, should he ever manage to reach either one of them. So as I stood in the kitchen in utter amazement, my son continued to peel away the wrapping. He was only three and there are just so many things you can say to a three year old.

I took the gift from him and hid it again. He didn’t cry about not being able to open an early Christmas gift and I thought he was ashamed at being caught sneaking early Christmas holiday gifts. I sat him down on the sofa and asked him in a very reasonable voice if he really thought his Christmas gifts would make him just as happy if they weren’t opened on Christmas day. His answer left me speechless. He said I should let him open one or two and we could both find out if he was happier that way! I was actually shocked that an answer like that had come out of a three old, my three old! I tried to reason with him, I told him how hard mommy tries to find unique Christmas gifts for him and that she wants to give him lots of nice surprises on Christmas day. He told me I was trying to concentrate his happiness.

We talked for an hour and it ended with me telling him it was wrong to open Christmas gifts before Christmas day. Two days later I received two Christmas gift baskets from neighbors and I was just going through them when my three year old asks me ‘Mommy, will that present make you happy even if you’re not opening it on Christmas day?’ rats! I tried to explain to him that they were early Christmas gifts. He said he’d like to trade all his Christmas day gifts for early Christmas gifts. I can’t believe he hasn’t even started school yet. After another hour of discussion I decided he could have an early Christmas gift like mine. I thought fruit baskets for Christmas would make a nice early Christmas gift and I found these wonderful edible Christmas gifts made of fruit, they were called fruit bouquets I ordered him one. It had fruit cut like flowers and dipped in chocolate. He graciously shared it with me and told me he was very happy with an early Christmas gift and to ‘keep ‘um coming’

Christmas Gifts For Kids Who Want A Pet

I think children are under the impression that parents are more willing to let them have small pets as opposed to big ones. My son seems to think so. He’s been asking for a pet for four years now. It started with ‘can I have a monkey?’ and has come down to ‘can I have a hamster?’ my daughter is consistent; she wanted a pony three years ago and she still wants a pony now. Our discussion about Christmas gifts revolves around animals year after year.

Most people would say I should get them a pet, especially since they’re asking it for a Christmas gift and their Christmas wish list doesn’t revolve around toys. The thing is both my kids are allergic to fur. They say they’ll wear space suits if they have to, they just want a pet. That’s cute and all, but nothing furry is coming near my kids. This makes getting Christmas gifts for my kids really hard. I mean I know what they want, but I can’t get it for them. On Christmas day when they see all their Christmas holiday gifts and nothing is wagging a tall or squeaking, they’re always a bit disappointed. I try and make up for it by getting them stuffed toys but they don’t like ‘fake’ stuff.

What on earth are my kids made of? I think I have one of those smart kids that people talk about. I mean these kids need seriously unique Christmas gifts to make them happy. The only universal rule they follow is the whole ‘love for food’ thing. My kids like anything unique to eat. I don’t mean they want Chinese or something; they just like a well decorated plate. Which is why they always join me as I dig in to the Christmas gift baskets I receive. They love those things because they are so beautiful. They’re favorites are the Christmas fruit baskets. So basically my kids are non-materialistic health food loving simple kids. I can live with that.

Kitty Love On Christmas

Some of the things I absolutely love about Christmas are the lights, the cookies, decorating the tree and of course Christmas gifts! One thing I truly hate at Christmas time is baby sitting someone’s cat. If you want to make it worse or see astonishing fits of rage, make it a sick cat.

Now I’m not sure what would be a good time to have kids. I mean I want kids and I’ll have them at some point. What I can tell you is that there is no such thing as a good time to have a cat. Just picture it; you’re sitting on the sofa, the vintage really expensive sofa, all comfy with a blanket and a cup of cocoa. You’re looking for some nice Christmas gifts online and the cat comes and throws up… on the sofa. If it wasn’t for the SPCA, I’d have killed that fur ball! So the cat was sick for three days, and I had to take it to the vet for a check up. You think health care is expensive for humans, try taking a cat to the hospital! The doctor said she missed her owner. I finally have something in common with the cat. She belongs to my friend who had to visit her sick aunt and asked me to care for her pet. I mean why not, after all Christmas holiday gifts buy themselves. It’s not I have to go Christmas shopping or anything!

So it’s been about two weeks since I’ve had the cat. And my friend has been sending Christmas gifts for her cat. I get Christmas gift baskets. I’m not complaining but the whole Christmas gifts for your cat sounds insane to me. I mean the time I spend looking for unique Christmas gifts for human beings is absolutely ridiculous but people have time to buy Christmas gifts for their pets! I absolutely adore the Christmas gift baskets my friends been sending but I think she’s going quack with the cat gifts.

Keeping My Head In The Christmas Game

Our phone hadn’t been working for a few days and I kept telling my boyfriend to call the phone company and complain. After being nagged for a week he said, ‘Why don’t you call and complain; you’re good at it!’

We are not speaking to each other. It’s pretty hard to not talk to each other now since we live together and we need the communication to discuss our Christmas holiday gifts. On the good side the phone is working again and we didn’t even need to complain. My boyfriend thinks its divine reason to stop fighting but I’m still upset with him. I don’t complain… much. I mean I do a normal amount of complaining. I think I just up my game in December. It’s a stressful time for me, buying all those Christmas Holiday Gifts and wrapping them and putting the tag on them. Every year I swear to myself that I’ll revert to buying Christmas gifts baskets for everyone. I mean they’re like a really easy, yet unique gift. I’ve never heard of people saying no to Christmas gift baskets. Of course every year, I swallow all the TV ads and catalogs and magazines and go looking for shiny stuff that’ll make unique Christmas gifts.

Now that I think of it my boyfriend is the one person who can keep me grounded to reality. I think I’d have maxed out my credit card if it hadn’t been for pointing out that my mom doesn’t want a play station. Rats! That means we will have to stop fighting. But it’s for the Christmas gifts, so what the hell. He wanted to stop fighting first so in a way I still win.
